At Bonorum we attach great importance to high-quality products. We are particularly proud of the quality of our CBD flowers . With us you always get fresh goods from controlled indoor production. The flowers do not require fertilizers or pesticides and are characterized by an intense aroma, a pleasant taste, and a high content of CBD, other cannabinoids and terpenes.
There are several reasons for the high demands placed on our products. Because inferior flowers are not only a disappointment, but also a risk to your health. We also have to adhere to various legal requirements, for example with regard to THC content.
Of course, any provider can say that. Luckily, you don’t just have to rely on our word. There are also some tips on how to recognize high-quality CBD flowers.
Look
The appearance alone says a lot about the quality of the CBD flowers. For example, you can tell by their color whether they were grown indoors or outdoors. Indoor flowers are usually much brighter than those grown outdoors or in a greenhouse. Because with them you have all influences such as temperature, light, humidity and the supply of water and nutrients under control. With outdoor flowers, these parameters are less predictable and constant. A lot depends on the right weather conditions.
That doesn't make indoor flowers fundamentally higher quality. However, the growing conditions in closed rooms can simply be better controlled and the end product can also be influenced. For example, certain substances develop better. For this reason, in our online shop and in all of our CBD shops ( branches ) you can only buy indoor flowers that have been grown with love under lamps.
Another quality feature of CBD flowers that you can see with the naked eye are the trichromes. These are the resin glands that cover the flowers in the form of small, white hairs. They produce many of the important ingredients of the hemp plant, such as cannabinoids and terpenes. High-quality CBD flowers are characterized by a large amount of such trichromes. They then look a bit as if there is frost on them. The color of the trichrome is also crucial. Ideally they are milky and slightly cloudy. This is an indicator that they were harvested at the right time. If the flowers were not yet ripe, the color of the trichrome can be described as transparent or clear.
Since the number and color of the trichromes is an important indication of the flower quality, many CBD shops across Germany now offer their customers magnifying glasses. This allows them to examine the cannabis flower closely before purchasing it in the shop.
In addition to the trichromes, you should also check your flowers carefully for contamination and mold. Examples of contaminants include coarse dirt and pests. Of course, the flowers should not be affected by mold. CBD flowers are a natural product and, just like fruit and vegetables from the supermarket, in rare cases mold can develop. However, this should not become a frequent occurrence. You should start thinking about the quality of the hemp flower from the second mold incident at the latest.
By the way, there shouldn't be any seeds on your CBD flowers.
consistency
After you have checked the appearance, it is time to examine the nature of the flowers. The firmness and dryness reveal a lot about the quality of the product. High-quality CBD flowers should be neither too dry nor too wet. If they crumble quickly and almost fall apart when touched lightly, then they were probably dried quickly at too high a temperature to save time. Flowers that are too wet are also undesirable. If there is too little drying, the risk of mold increases. This can often not be noticed at first glance.
The ideal drying time is usually between 10 and 30 days. Then the CBD flowers of the cannabis plant reach a texture that can be described as dry, but without immediately crumbling. The surface should also be slightly crisp. The flowers are also welcome to stick when touched. This comes from the resin glands, which are responsible for the valuable compounds in the plant.
Odor
The most important indication of high-quality CBD flowers is their smell. They are characterized by a unique and subtle aroma, which, depending on the terpene profile, smells of fruits, citrus and pine, among other things (CBD flower: Strawberry , Fruit Loop ). If you break the flowers open, the smell should intensify and become even more intense.
So if you buy flowers that have almost no aroma, you're probably getting a bad product. You should also be careful if you notice an extremely fruity or artificial smell. In such a case, the flowers have most likely been treated with artificial terpenes or flavorings. These are applied externally to cover up the lack of substances responsible for the scent profile. Such fraud can be easily recognized if you chop up the flowers and break them open. The smell cannot normally intensify here because the artificial flavorings are only superficial.
The taste
Of course, the taste of the flowers also gives you an indication of whether you have purchased a high-quality product. A good profile of terpenes and aromatics ensures a smooth and aromatic taste. One of the no-gos, however, is a scratchy throat. This occurs when the flowers have not been dried properly. Then more chlorophyll remains, which can cause a pungent taste.
ash
In fact, even the ash says a lot about the quality of the flowers. It should be bright when burning. A dark ash is a sign that the flowers are too wet or there are impurities such as fertilizer residues.
Other quality features
Contrary to popular belief, a high CBD content is not a sign of quality. Many automatically assume that the more CBD the flowers contain, the better they are. However, that is not the case. Instead, you should find out what spectrum of other cannabinoids and terpenes are contained in the flowers. Not only do some of these themselves have positive effects on the human body; They also synergize with each other and can strengthen each other's effects ( What is the entourage effect? ).
Conclusion
As you can see, it is not that difficult to distinguish good CBD flowers from inferior ones. A few close looks and smell tests are often enough. If you choose a reputable provider like Bonorum, you can also assume that the general conditions are right. All of our flowers are made from certified industrial hemp varieties that are specified in the EU variety catalogue. The THC content of a maximum of 0.2% is of course maintained and checked at regular intervals by independent laboratories.
