After a forced break due to Corona last year, the Mary Jane hemp trade fair finally took place again in Berlin recently. From October 22nd to 24th, the capital was all about the versatile plant - and of course Bonorum was there too!
This time almost 23,000 visitors flocked to Berlin to discover the latest products and developments. We also took a look around the Mary Jane and took a closer look at the current trends. Here we would like to give you a little insight into the event and reveal which exhibitors were there and what is new.
Around the Mary Jane
The Mary Jane Berlin is the largest hemp-themed trade fair in Germany. It has been taking place since 2016 and was held for the 5th time this year. Manufacturers and wholesalers as well as small companies and start-ups use the innovative trade fair to present their offers to interested visitors. And this couldn't be more versatile - because in principle, the Mary Jane offers almost everything that can be made from the green power plant and can be sold legally.
In order to give enough space to such a diverse offering, the trade fair is held in the Arena Berlin - located directly on the beautiful Spree. This time, over 220 exhibitors presented their products on a total area of 14,000 m 2 , spread over 3 halls. For us, this was of course another great opportunity to make new contacts and build business relationships.
But Mary Jane is not just about networking and introducing new products. Rather, the trade fair also has an educational purpose and aims to dispel some of the prejudices surrounding cannabis. One of the goals of the trade fair operators has always been to use their event to make a broader public aware of the hemp plant and its versatile uses. That's why Mary Jane always invites national and international experts and offers them a platform to inform the audience and exchange ideas with each other.
Important points such as the current legal situation or cannabis legalization are then discussed in exciting specialist lectures and conferences. Unfortunately, this program had to be largely canceled in 2021 due to Covid regulations. However, we hope that it can take place again next year as before.
Despite such serious and important topics, fun must of course not be left behind during the trade fair. Quite the opposite! That's why the operators of the trade fair work hard every year to provide visitors with a great entertainment program and the right culinary offering. This time there were many food trucks in the large outdoor area with a wide variety of specialties and the opportunity to exchange ideas with like-minded people in a relaxed atmosphere. All of this was accompanied by appropriate music, because Mary Jane is a trade fair and a festival at the same time. Live performances took place starting at 11 a.m. for three days. This time the main act and highlight of the colorful lineup was the rapper Antifuchs, who performed on Saturday evening. The crowning conclusion was the afterparty in the Berlin party location Hauben Taucher.
Products, topics and exhibitors
When we say that the Mary Jane shows everything that can theoretically be legally made with and from hemp, we mean it! The products presented ranged from medical cannabis and smoking accessories to CBD edibles and building materials made from the plant.
Of course, there were also a lot of exhibitors for our favorite product CBD. In addition to oils and capsules, foods and cosmetics containing hemp extract were presented. In some corners you could also find well-known hemp varieties such as AK47 , Amnesia Haze and LA Skittlez or hash , flower hybrids such as Ice Rocks and Moon Rocks. And not just from large suppliers, but also from many small shops. We were particularly pleased by the visitors' considerable interest in the topic - which shows us once again that CBD is no longer a small niche product.
Other products featured included the following:
- Hemp oil
- Hemp cosmetics
- Vaporizers
- Flower tea
- Hemp clothing
- Superfoods
- Paraphernalia
- Growing supplies
The best-known exhibitors included the manufacturers of smoking accessories , OCB and Gizeh . The German Hemp Association was also represented with a stand and, among other things, provided information about what a better cannabis policy could look like.
What's new and what's trending?
When we visit the Mary Jane trade fair, we always look forward to discovering new products and finding out what the community is into.
But the CBD market and the development of new CBD-containing products were also driven forward by the pandemic. As the organizers of the trade fair report, there was an increased demand for CBD items, particularly during the lockdown months. This was bought because of its calming and stress-reducing effect, as quite a few people were struggling mentally with the changed situation and being alone.
But CBD doesn’t just help against isolation. Cannabidiol has now also found its way into the bedroom. One of the new products that caught the eye at this year's Mary Jane is CBD lubricant. According to the manufacturers, it supposedly leads to more intense orgasms.
Review of the Mary Jane Fair 2021
Overall, visiting the trade fair was once again a real pleasure and remains an absolute must in our calendar. Rarely do so many manufacturers, retailers and experts on our favorite topic come together in one place. And if you discover a new product in our online shop, it may well be that we saw it first on the Mary Jane.
By the way, the fair usually takes place in the summer and is accompanied by a large bathing party. Since the period has only changed due to the current situation, it will hopefully be held again during the hot months next year.
We are definitely looking forward to Mary Jane 2022! And who knows - maybe your local CBD shop, Bonorum, will even have its own stand.
