Since our founding in 2019, we have constantly expanded our range. Before we add a new product to our range, we first check extensively whether it meets our high quality standards . Because only really high-quality CBD products make it into our online shop and our CBD shops.

A prime example of this is the Bonorum range of CBD flowers . We now offer you almost 30 different varieties, all of which come from high-quality indoor production in Austria. However, with such a large selection, it's easy to lose track - and perhaps you've ever wondered what exactly the difference is between the different flowers?

That's why we're now starting a small blog series to shed some light on the darkness surrounding our CBD flowers . We basically differentiate between three different categories:

  • Unwashed CBD flowers
  • Washed CBD flowers
  • Shock-frozen CBD flowers

Today we start with the unwashed varieties, which are characterized by their authentic and very aromatic smell. Their high content of valuable CBG also speaks for this type of flowers, which include Sour Mango and Purple Haze .

What does unwashed mean?

In order to comply with the legally permitted THC content, some CBD flowers are treated after drying. There are various methods for this, such as treatment with gases (e.g. nitrogen or butane gas). This process is also called washing . It reduces the THC content of the flowers so that they come to less than 0.2%, for example. At the same time, the treatment also washes out terpenes and other ingredients in the plant, which should actually be retained due to their good properties.

This is not the case with unwashed flowers. These strains have already been bred to have very low THC levels and therefore require no post-treatment. This means that all important ingredients are retained and the flowers have a particularly good plant profile.

On the one hand, unwashed flowers have a naturally high content of the cannabinoid CBG. This not only has many health-promoting properties, but also scores points because it produces numerous other cannabinoids. We would like to go into this again in more detail.

On the other hand, unwashed flowers are characterized by their many natural terpenes. These aromatic compounds are primarily responsible for the specific smell of the flowers. Their growth is also indirectly related to the high CBG content. The cannabinoid promotes the formation and development of terpenes and other plant substances.

The result of this balanced plant profile is very aromatic CBD flowers. They are particularly characterized by their incredibly authentic cannabis smell and often fine fruity notes.

What is CBG?

In addition to the amazing aroma, unwashed flowers also bring all the benefits of the cannabinoid CBG (short for “cannabigerol”). This is sometimes referred to as the “mother of all cannabinoids” because it is the precursor to all other cannabinoids in the hemp plant. It is created first and is then converted into other compounds such as CBD and CBC as it grows. As a result, young hemp plants in particular have a high proportion of CBG.

Unfortunately, in contrast to its well-known successors CBD and THC, the cannabinoid is still relatively unexplored and its properties have only been proven by a few studies. However, we already know that it has a similar effect to CBD. For example, it can have a calming and mood-enhancing effect. There is also evidence of an antibacterial and antifungal effect. The latter means that the compound from the hemp plant works against diseases caused by fungi.

Oils and other products with CBG could also be particularly recommended for people with neurodegenerative diseases. These include, for example, Parkinson's and multiple sclerosis, but also Alzheimer's. They all arise from damage to nerve cells. CBG could counteract this, as scientists have discovered evidence of an antioxidant and protective effect on nerve cells.

Unwashed flowers, which are very rich in valuable CBG, could therefore have numerous medicinal benefits and have a calming and balancing effect.

How do you recognize unwashed CBD flowers?

Unfortunately, it is not easy to tell at first glance whether flowers have been treated. The untrained eye in particular cannot immediately see a difference. However, there are a few characteristics that indicate unwashed flowers.

First of all, many flowers in this category are characterized by the fact that they grow relatively compactly. Anyone who is familiar with the subject will also notice a similarity to Cali varieties. It also helps to look at the trichromes, which, in contrast to washed flowers, are extremely pronounced and exist as an intact layer on the buds. In terms of color, they vary from a cloudy white to a pronounced orange, such as the Red Haze variety. Overall, unwashed flowers are characterized by relatively strong, juicy colors.

Unwashed flowers in the Bonorum range

We currently offer you the following varieties in the unwashed flowers category:

This popular Purple Haze strain was created by crossing his Thai Haze and a Dutch Skunk. The first thing you notice about the Purple Haze flowers is their great look . In addition to the beautiful purple accents, the flowers have an unusually large number of trichromes . But the smell is also convincing - an earthy aroma meets sweet, fruity notes in Purple Haze.

Sour mango

The name says it all and fans of very sweet flowers in particular will love our CBD variety Sour Mango . Because what our growers have achieved here can only be described as a tropical experience - the unique terpene profile of the Sour Mango flowers delivers sweet notes and a fruity aroma that is strongly reminiscent of the smell of ripe mangoes.

Conclusion

We are definitely already fans of these four varieties. If you also like fruity aromas and extremely natural products without any after-treatment, then you can't avoid smelling them yourself! Because our unwashed CBD flowers meet all of these requirements and also score points with their great CBG values.
