Growing cannabis at home in Germany: What is allowed?

- Number of plants:

Up to three cannabis plants can be grown at the same time. It is advisable to keep them safe from unauthorized access, for example by using a lockable grow cabinet or a lockable room, especially if there are children in the household.

- Growing on the balcony:

Growing cannabis plants on the balcony is permitted as long as there is no access for strangers.

- Number of plants per household:

A maximum of nine cannabis plants may be grown in one household.

- Disclosure to other persons:

It is strictly forbidden to pass on cannabis or products made from it to other people, whether by sale, gift or exchange.

- Interaction with the police:

If the police show up at your door, it's important to know that you are not obligated to give them access unless they have a warrant. It's crucial to follow these guidelines to avoid risking legal trouble.
